    14 June 2011

Chosen from a field of over 100 finalists from throughout the country, The ANZ Centre in Melbourne has won the Australian Development of the Year Award at the 2011 Property Council of Australia/ Rider Levett Bucknall Innovation and Excellence Awards, held in Sydney in May.

Developed by Lend Lease, ANZ’s global headquarters is the largest single tenanted commercial building in Australia, delivering a net area of 83,550m2.

The building was designed to deliver the best possible environmental outcomes for air, water, energy and waste management. To represent best practice for workplace, the building was designed as a low rise 10-storey ground scraper with a dynamic central atrium space and fully connected large floor plates.

Some key sustainable development innovations used on the project include an under-floor air distribution system, Quiet Revolution wind turbines, a significant reduction in the number of car parking spaces provided and the blackwater system which significantly reduces flow to sewer.

Property Council of Australia CEO Peter Verwer stated, “The ANZ Centre is an outstanding showcase of the great outcomes our industry can produce. The building has not only achieved global benchmarks in environment and sustainability, but has reinvigorated the entire Melbourne Docklands precinct. ANZ Centre is a thoroughly deserving winner of this award.”

The 280-meter-tall Lumina Shanghai, developed by Henderson Land Group and designed by Gensler, is the tallest skyscraper in the Xuhui Riverside District.

A sophisticated yet modern setting was derived by juxtaposition of Indochine-Vietnamese features and wood-fire inspired material palettes. Re-interpretation of the spatial order of a typical Indochine-Vietnamese mansion has been adopted to give hierarchy, layers and details to the space.
