• Arquitectonica design massive Miami resort complex

    22 October 2011

Malaysia’s Genting Group have unveiled plans for a 930,000 m2 mixed-use development that will be the home of Resorts World Miami. Designed by Arquitectonica, the US$3 billion development will be the largest construction project in the United States after ground is broken next year. Four hotel towers and two condo towers built atop of an 8-level podium will include 5,200 hotel rooms, 50 restaurants and bars, 60 luxury shops and a 18,500 m2  convention and ballroom space.

The centrepiece of this enormous development, one of the largest ever in Florida, will be a 14,500 m2 outdoor lagoon (equivalent to 12 Olympic-size swimming pools) surrounded by natural sand beaches. Another key part of the project involves the creation of a 4.8 kilometer-long Baywalk that will run north from the Miami River to Margaret Pace Park, just past Genting’s World Miami site. “This will put Miami on the map and make it a destination,” said Bernardo Fort-Brescia, co-founder of Arquitectonica. “Miami has not seen resorts of this importance, it will make Miami more than competitive. It will have an advantage.”

A sophisticated yet modern setting was derived by juxtaposition of Indochine-Vietnamese features and wood-fire inspired material palettes. Re-interpretation of the spatial order of a typical Indochine-Vietnamese mansion has been adopted to give hierarchy, layers and details to the space.
