Magical Illumination For thirty years Ricardo Lighting has been manufacturing a vast array of commercial and hotel lighting systems. Their favourite designer to work with is Peggy Paik who has always been the one to push the limits of what can be achieved, constantly testing and challenging Ricardo Lighting¡¯s creativity and technical know how. ¡°Our work with Peggy Paik over the years has given us the opportunity to work for a much greater number of luxury hotels, and it is through difficulty and challenge that we gain greater knowledge and produce the most outstanding installations.¡± The stunning tassel lights found at both entrances into Oriental Casino were based on the designer¡¯s request for a tassel shaped art piece reflecting a range of vibrant colour. This demanding project saw Ricardo Lighting testing various glass from three different continents before the perfect combination of European crystal and American LEDs was found. The results speak for themselves and are bound to become an icon of the Macau gaming industry.
In the golden dragon crystal curtain, Ricardo Lighting¡¯s brief was to help the designer tell a story based on Oriental myth and legends and the result is a shimmering wall featuring thousands of glittering crystal beads sourced from Egypt and China. Traditionally such a complicated and delicate installation ¨C entirely hand made ¨C would have taken a very long time, but in the age of computers, amazingly Ricardo Lighting¡¯s talented technicians were able to complete the whole installation in little over two days. Even more challenging are the casino¡¯s main chandeliers whose design is based on another classic Asian legend, the Chinese Phoenix in flight. These twinkling compositions feature countless thousands of Egyptian Affour crystal balls and Chinese beads, each one painstakingly installed by hand, each at a different angle, reflecting light from all sides. Ricardo Lighting¡¯s ability to meet the technical challenges faced in delivering Peggy Paik¡¯s splendid visions has delivered to the Oriental Casino an atmosphere of pure magic. One can only hope that this union of lighting wizard and demanding designer, itself now legend, will last for many more years to come.
