AECOM Technology Corporation recently announced that its geotechnical engineer in Hong Kong, Dr. Johnny Cheuk, was named 2013 Young Engineer of the Year by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE).
The prestigious honour recognises outstanding young engineers who have made commendable engineering achievements and valuable contributions to the continuous development of Hong Kong.
Cheuk specializes in slope engineering, design of deep excavations and modelling of soil-structure interaction. He has worked on numerous geotechnical projects in Hong Kong, including the West Kowloon Terminus of the MTR Express Rail Link, Reclamation for Hong Kong Boundary Crossing Facilities, Landslide Prevention and Mitigation Works at Po Shan, Mid-Levels, etc.
Cheuk received his BEng and MPhil degrees in civil engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and completed his PhD degree in geotechnical engineering from the University of Cambridge.
He is now an adjunct associate professor at the University of Hong Kong and is actively involved in collaborating with educational institutions to promote technical excellence in engineering.
