Developed by China’s Beijing North Star and designed by The Jerde Partnership, the new mixed-use place is one of the most highly anticipated modern, waterfront lifestyle districts in the City.
The Capital of Hunan province and classified as one of China’s “economically advanced cities”, Changsha is situated on the banks of the Xiang river, a branch of the Yangtze and has a population exceeding seven million residents.
Comprising five residential towers of 313,000 square meters, a multi-level retail entertainment hub of over 124,000 square meters, a 60,000 square-meter office tower and hotel tower nearly 70,000 square meters, this integrated mixed-use development offers a new and innovative retail, entertainment and mixed-use development to Changsha and greater China.
As a finalist in the China Futura Mega Project category, the project will represent a vibrant place for living and spending leisure time that will attract both local and regional visitors.
Symbolising sails on the horizon, Xin He Delta takes full advantage of the site, with a dynamic waterfront promenade and vibrant public space, while its sleek, contemporary residential towers maximize views of the river frontage and nearby mountains, and providing sunlight into every unit.
The inspirationally themed elements of water, gardens and metropolis transcend the typical China housing environment into a new model as a compelling place to live, work and play, resulting in a timeless development.
The “blurring” of the water’s edge, with water features that cascade from the various landscape decks, the undulation of the facade and fluid motion of the pedestrian spaces and architectural elements stand as a metaphor of the organic nature of water and sails on the landscape.
In adopting a holistic approach to a mixed-use development and incorporating sustainable green features, such as efficient building materials, planted roofs and open public spaces, Beijing North Star’s Xin He Delta provides a benchmark example of housing development in Changsha, including a more western style of design, similar to housing above retail and shops in European cities.
Beijing North Star’s Changsha project – Xin He Delta – is on display in the MIPIM Asia Awards hall for the public voting.
