• Successful conclusion of Technology for Quality Living Programme

    The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) and the Hong Kong Science Museum have announced the successful completion of their educational programme, “Technology for Quality Living”.

    The month long exhibition closed on28 March 2012. Comprising a special exhibition, a lecture series and tours of selected engineering projects, the programme was aimed at demonstrating the vital roles engineering professionals play in improving our quality of life as well as the future development of society.

    Ir Dr Chan Fuk-cheung, President of HKIE, said, “Engineering is in every part of our daily lives. By integrating with the theme of the Institution this year, ‘Applying Frontiers of Technology for Quality Living’, we have organised this programme to help the public better understand how engineers apply technology to sustain and enhance our quality of life. We also hope the programme fostered the younger generation’s interest in the engineering profession, encouraging them to choose engineering as a career.”

    The 280-meter-tall Lumina Shanghai, developed by Henderson Land Group and designed by Gensler, is the tallest skyscraper in the Xuhui Riverside District.


    A sophisticated yet modern setting was derived by juxtaposition of Indochine-Vietnamese features and wood-fire inspired material palettes. Re-interpretation of the spatial order of a typical Indochine-Vietnamese mansion has been adopted to give hierarchy, layers and details to the space.
