Speaking at the launching ceremony, Mr. CHAN Ka-kui, Chairman of the CIC said, “Even if digitalisation has not been commonly adopted, it has received increasing attention in the construction industry with a growing trend of digital technologies such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), and Virtual Reality/ Augmented Reality (VR/ AR), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT) as well as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) etc. are also gaining entry to the industry. With an aim to enhance the continuous development of digitalisation in the industry, the CIC has decided to hold the inaugural CIC Construction Digitalisation Award in 2021. Riding on the growing popularity of BIM, the Celebration of BIM Achievement 2020 is a kick-off event of the CIC Construction Digitalisation Award to recognise organisations and practitioners who drive and adopt BIM in the industry.”
The CIC Construction Digitalisation Award 2021 aims to recognise outstanding local projects and local organisations for their contribution in the promotion and adoption of digitalisation tools and workflows, and in bringing about innovation in these areas to improve productivity, quality, sustainability and safety, with measurable KPIs. The Award is divided into two categories, namely “Project” and “Organisation”. The “Organisation” category is further divided into six sub-categories, consisting of Client (Government, Public Client and Developer), Consultant, Contractor Category A, Contractor Category B, Training/ Research Institute and Start-up Company. Gold, silver, bronze awards and merit certificates are set up for each project and each sub-category of organisation. The Award is now open for submission, and the deadline is 30 June 2021.
The results of the Celebration of BIM Achievement 2020 were announced and the recipients were invited to share their valuable experiences and achievements on BIM in the ceremony. The celebration included three categories of achievement, namely “BIM Projects 2020”, “BIM Organisations 2020” and “BIMers 2020”. Participants aged below 30 are recognised as “Young BIMers 2020”. Although this is the first ever Celebration of BIM Achievement organised by the CIC, it has received an enthusiastic reception from the industry, showing that BIM has been successfully adopted and implemented in Hong Kong.
