• Construction Industry Machinery Operation Competition 2017 promotes industry safety and excellency

    (7 January 2018, Hong Kong) The Construction Industry Council (CIC) today held the first “Construction Industry Machinery Operation Competition 2017″(CIMOC 2017)award presentation ceremony with an aim to raise safety awareness and enhance the professional skills in machinery operation of the industry practitioners.

    The participating team demonstrates excellent co-operation and teamwork among teammates.

    The award presenters included Ir HON Chi-keung, Permanent Secretary for Development (Works), HKSAR; Mr. WU Wai-hung, Assistant Commissioner (Occupational Safety), Labour Department; Mr. CHAN Ka-kui, Chairman of the CIC; Ir CHENG Ting-ning, Albert, Executive Director of the CIC and the trade representatives.

    The competition attracted a total of 25 corporate teams. Preliminary matches and finals were held on 2 December 2017 and 5 January 2018 respectively at CIC’s Tai Po Training Ground. The competition was divided into six categories, namely the operation of crawler crane, tower crane, truck-mounted crane, gantry crane, derrick crane and mini/skid loader. The competition covered various machinery that aims to provide a platform for industry practitioners to learn from each other and enhance their skills.

    “Through the competition, we hope to raise the safety awareness of machinery operation of the industry practitioners and encourage them to receive continuous training to improve their skills, so as to facilitate the sustainable development of the industry,” said Mr. CHAN Ka-kui at the award presentation ceremony.

    Mr. CHAN indicated that the CIC has been devoted to promoting professional training and development in the industry. In order to further enhance the quality of its training courses, the CIC will establish the “Hong Kong Institute of Construction” to offer quality training to industry practitioners in a more systematic, professional and technology-based approach.

    Judges of the competition are of professional background from Development Bureau, Labour Department, Hong Kong Housing Authority, Occupational Safety & Health Council, Hong Kong Construction Association, Hong Kong Construction Industry Employees General Union, Hong Kong Professional Hoisting Engineering Association Ltd, Hong Kong Tower Crane Association and the CIC.

    Participants are committed to working together to ensure the safety at works sites and live out teamwork.
