Urbanprojects are pleased to announce their appointment as design architects for the ‘Dean Kempinski Residence’ which will be developed by Guangzhou Dean Real Estate Ltd. and operated by the Geneva based Kempinski Hotels & Resorts – the world’s longest established luxury hotelier.
Urbanprojects have created a 23-storey landmark tower, providing 260 fully serviced apartments, rising in three gridded stone and glass planes. The tower façade is conceived as series of ‘panels’ cracked open at the corners to reveal tapering curved glazed slots.
The north façade, by contrast is articulated in an array of interwoven curved balconies clad in white vitreous enamel panels. The three storey base to the tower is treated in a combination of glass, natural copper fins and fully irrigated vertical green walls. The ephemeral texture of the podium acts as a counterpoint to the solidity (and simplicity) of the main body of the tower above.
In line with Kempinski Hotels & Resorts global design guidelines, the residence will be rated minimum ‘Silver’ standard by LEED for environmental performance. Design has begun and the project will be operational by 2016.
