• A bespoke helical staircase by EeStairs blends technical perfection with sculptural serenity

Barneveld, The Netherlands, July 2026 – For the renovation of a villa belonging to a prominent French entrepreneur near Paris, Agence Romeo Architecture, internationally acclaimed designer Piet Boon, and staircase manufacturer EeStairs have collaborated to create an exceptional helical staircase. The project exemplifies how profound technical complexity can be rendered invisible, hidden behind a seemingly effortless architectural gesture.

A staircase defined by proportion, not dominance

Designed by Piet Boon and realized by EeStairs, the staircase integrates seamlessly into an interior defined by light-filled parquet floors, precise wall paneling, and subtle lighting. Rather than dominating through scale or monumentality, the staircase commands attention through its balanced proportions, material quality, and flawless execution.

With its dual-sided balustrades, enclosed soffit, and continuous handrail edge, the spiral appears as if sculpted from a single, unified volume.

Invisible technology as the foundation of aesthetics

The staircase’s sense of effortless grace is the result of a high-precision manufacturing process. In the EeStairs workshops, craftsmen first create exact formers that define the spiral’s complex geometry, providing the foundation for the meticulous detailing of the curved timber surfaces.

A concealed steel structure handles all static requirements, allowing the wood to be experienced as a continuous, fluid surface. American walnut was selected for the cladding. Custom-engineered veneers ensure the grain flows consistently, even over tight radii, creating a serene, homogeneous appearance.

    Precision in every detail

Prior to delivery, the entire staircase is fully assembled in the factory. All transitions, connections, and sightlines are verified and fine-tuned before the construction is dismantled for transport.

The result is a staircase that does not showcase its technical sophistication but conceals it—thereby revealing the shared philosophy of Piet Boon, Agence Romeo Architecture, and EeStairs: supreme precision in the service of timeless, restrained architecture.
