• Aedas Designed Destination Mall Welcomes First Shoppers

    10 April 2012

Starlight Place, the latest shopping mall designed by Aedas, has opened its doors to its customers in Chongqing, PRC.

With its unusual and dynamic angular forms and 4000m2 glass skylight, and leveraging on the prominent site location adjacent to the newly built metro monorail line, Starlight Place on Jiang Nan Avenue was designed to become a landmark building that celebrates the southern entrance to the city centre.

Inspired by works of the Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida, the architecture takes on an immediately dramatic appeal that invokes the spirit of monumental abstract sculptural works. The design of the shopping mall uses dynamic lines and stretched forms to create a powerful and iconic architectural statement which dominates the stretch of Jiang Nan Avenue that it occupies.

The eye-catching forms are accentuated by the bold contrast of materials – polished black granite, grey aluminium and copper-toned cladding.

The 280-meter-tall Lumina Shanghai, developed by Henderson Land Group and designed by Gensler, is the tallest skyscraper in the Xuhui Riverside District.

A sophisticated yet modern setting was derived by juxtaposition of Indochine-Vietnamese features and wood-fire inspired material palettes. Re-interpretation of the spatial order of a typical Indochine-Vietnamese mansion has been adopted to give hierarchy, layers and details to the space.
