    2 December 2011

The Mott Macdonald-Arup JV has won the top global Building Information Model (BIM) Award for Innovation in Campuses, Airports and Military Installations at the Bentley ‘Be Inspired’ BIM Awards for its work on the Hong Kong International Airport Midfield Concourse Development.

The gala dinner and awards ceremony was held on 10 November in Amsterdam. Stuart Bull, BIM expert from Arup gave a presentation on the winning project on behalf of the project team.

As part of Hong Kong International Airport’s new passenger concourse development project, the Midfield Development Phase 1 Design Consultancy includes a 73,000m2 five-storey building with 11 bridged stands, an automated people mover extension and related civil and existing Terminal 1 modification works.

A second phase could ultimately increase the development to a 100,000m2 multi-level building with 20 bridged aircraft parking stands. The Mott MacDonald-Arup JV, in conjunction with Aedas, deployed multiple software platforms to deliver the optimum solution.

The Bentley software ‘Be Inspired’ Awards competition is a unique scheme to showcase excellence and innovation in the design, construction and operation of infrastructure projects around the world. It is the only competition of its kind that is global in scope and comprehensive in categories covered.
