• Introducing The Pearl Villa by Katharine Pooley

    10 September 2019

(19 June 2019, Doha) Internationally renowned interior designer Katharine Pooley is delighted to announce the completion of The Pearl Villa in Doha, Qatar following a 5-year build period to create a unique neoclassical European design for the spectacular 10,000 square foot Villa on Pearl Island.

Set against the beautiful sapphire crystal-clear waters of the Persian Gulf and facing towards the Doha skyline, Katharine’s vision for the property was to create a contemporary luxurious design with different room ambiences flowing through each space whilst maintaining the collective narrative. Inspired by the surrounding ocean landscape, the design exudes a serene elegance, a feeling of timeless luxury as well as embracing the outstanding European craftsmanship used throughout the design.

Katharine selected fabrics and materials reflecting light and soft colour themes combining cream, ivory, grey and blue hues. The team layered splendid Blue de Savoie and Carrara marble, upholstery woven with silk, cashmere and leather tasseled throws to create an understated elegance of stylish contemporary design. Katharine and her team have thoughtfully selected custom-made fixtures and materials to complement the finest artworks which were individually commissioned for The Pearl Villa.

To enhance the Neo-classical façade, Katharine has created a clean contemporary design with a bespoke chandelier hanging suspended in the double height entry foyer. Each individual twist of crystal on the chandelier was hand blown in the Czech Republic to Katharine’s specific design. Collectively the abstract form is reminiscent of the fluidity and lightness of water. The magnificent 250-piece chandelier in the dining room was sculpted by hand from fine bone china and gold creating a delicate ethereal wave of wind-blown leaves which hangs above the 6-metre long bespoke dining table. The panels of silk Fromental wallpaper set within a dove grey lacquer framework are hand painted with a vertical linear wash of brushstrokes reminiscent of the ombre effect of falling rain. Delicate artwork and craftmanship are reflected in the master suite with hand stitched gold thread featured over grey brush strokes on the Headboard wall. In the bedrooms, hand painted or Fromental plaster effect silk wallpaper features create an overriding serene and feminine feel.

Katharine has skillfully combined a comfortable and leisurely lifestyle within all aspects of the property. The home cinema was designed using velvet upholstery with rich burgundy accent cushions and plush thick pile silk carpeting for a cozy, opulent space. In the basement games room, a sculptural billiards table made by an English craftsman to Katharine’s design is featured and the room is offset by the colours of gunmetal grey, navy, platinum and ivory contrasting the gold and burgundy accents for a rich and decadent feel. The back of the property features extensive balcony spaces adjoining the master bedroom suites. The ground floor landscaped terraces open up from the main entertaining spaces across a turquoise infinity pool and beyond to the pristine white sand of the villa’s own private beach. The villa has pride of place on Pearl Island and looks across the expanse of water belonging to the Emir.

Katharine has also incorporated products from her own Katharine Pooley Boutique collection and accessories into the design of The Pearl Villa. The ivory shagreen desk set in a masculinesuite is from Katharine’s collection while the bronze coffee tables in the relaxed seating area are decorated with individual accessories from the boutique adding to the overall elegant and contemporary design of the property.

Katharine has created a contemporary luxurious design at The Pearl Villa with an eye on the smallest detail to link the many different rooms and spaces throughout the property ensuring a natural sense of flow. Katharine also skillfully brought in natural light from the large windows, allowing sunshine to flood into the space. The choice of textures and colour tones used throughout offer a perfect balance and lightness to create a contemporary design of timeless grace and elegance at The Pearl Villa.
