(26 October 2018, Hong Kong) The Construction Industry Council (CIC) honoured the sustainability best practices among organisations and practitioners in particular young generation of the construction industry at its Sustainable Construction Award Conference and Presentation Ceremony today. Officiating at the Award Conference and Presentation Ceremony were Mr. Michael WONG, Secretary for Development, Mr. LIU Chun-san, Under Secretary for Development, Mr. LAM Sai-hung, Permanent Secretary for Development (Works) and Mr. CHAN Ka-kui, Chairman of CIC.
The Award consists of two categories, namely “Organisations” and “Industry Practitioners”, with a total of 24 winners from “Organisations Category” and 18 winners from “Industry Practitioners Category” being presented. Acclaimed professionals and top winners were invited to share their innovative ideas and successful construction cases towards sustainable construction in the Award Conference.
Speaking at the Award Conference and Presentation Ceremony, Mr. Michael WONG, Secretary for Development praised that the Award provided excellent opportunities for outstanding organisations and practitioners to share their knowledge, insights and valuable experience in the application of innovative technologies and environmentally friendly materials to achieve sustainable construction. Mr. Michael WONG also indicated that the $1 billion “Construction Innovation and Technology Fund” established by the Government of the HKSAR could trigger the construction industry to build an innovative culture and foster the application of new technologies for the sustainable development.
Mr. CHAN Ka-kui, Chairman of CIC praised the outstanding organisations and Industry practitioners for overwhelming number of high quality submissions from project owners, developers, contractors and industry practitioners and their active engagements in the Award. Chairman CHAN took this opportunity to promote the use of Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) which is the most thorough and effective solution towards construction safety, quality and sustainability in Hong Kong. He also expressed his gratitude to all award winners, judging panels, the Award organising and technical committees on their favourable contributions, and CIC looks forward to working together with stakeholders to develop an efficient and sustainable construction industry.
