    10 April 2012

Australian design practice Cox Architecture has been appointed as Lead Architect by the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust to carry out architectural design services for the redevelopment of the Sydney Cricket Ground (SGC) Northern Stand.

The SCG is one of the leading cricket venues in the country. Cox Architecture is pleased to be involved in the development of next generation domestic and international cricket stadia.

The Northern Stand redevelopment is the first project of the master plan being developed by the Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust and the second stage of the SCG redevelopment.

Cox Architecture Sports Director Alastair Richardson said, “Cox is delighted to be part of the redevelopment of this unique cricket ground. The twenty-first century cricket stadium is being defined by the changing shape of the game. The redevelopment will celebrate the heritage of the SCG while showcasing the next evolution of stadia design and leading cricket’s future whilst leaving a lasting legacy for the city and community of Sydney.”

The project is due for completion in time for The Ashes Tour in 2014.

A sophisticated yet modern setting was derived by juxtaposition of Indochine-Vietnamese features and wood-fire inspired material palettes. Re-interpretation of the spatial order of a typical Indochine-Vietnamese mansion has been adopted to give hierarchy, layers and details to the space.
