(18 January 2018, Hong Kong) ONYX Hospitality Group, one of the region’s leading hotel management companies, continues the expansion of its Shama brand with the signing of another new project – Shama Zijingang Hangzhou, marking the fourth Shama signing within the month of January.

Occupying a 21-storey building within Yaojiang Wending International, the large-scale commercial complex development by Yaojiang Group, Shama Zijingang Hangzhou is perfectly positioned within the Xihu (West Lake) District of Hangzhou, which is in close proximity to the Zijingang Campus of Zhejiang University, one of the most prestigious tertiary education institutions in China. The Hangzhou International Convention and Exhibition Centre and the West Lake Scenic Area are both within a 20-minute drive, together with direct access to MRT Lines 2 and 5, and a shopping mall offering lifestyle and entertainment options – making the property a perfect “home away from home” for both leisure and business travellers.

Shama Zijingang will feature 384 keys. The property will create a living environment that epitomises comfort and style with Shama signature facilities including the Shama Wired business centre, a fully equipped Shama Gym, and a multi-function Shama Den lounge area. The property is scheduled for opening during the second quarter of 2019.

“Hangzhou is full of business opportunities, and is one of the top Chinese cities that boast over 1 trillion CNY of GDP. Most recently, the city was named one of the world’s top 15 model cities for best practices in tourism by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation. It is our great honour to partner up with Yaojiang Group in introducing Shama Zijingang Hangzhou to this beautiful city,” said Tommy Lai, Vice President, North Asia, ONYX Hospitality Group. “This project plays a significant part in the growth of ONYX, raising the brand awareness of Shama and strengthening our position within China. This also brings us one step closer to our target of having 99 hotels open by 2024 and becoming the best medium-sized hospitality player in the Asia-Pacific region.”

Founded in 1993, Yaojiang Group is one of the top brands within the Zhejiang province. For the past 20 years, the group has developed numerous projects, from residential buildings and offices, to hotels and commercial complexes, covering cities such as Hangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai and Hainan.
