The Scholarships are offered to immediate family members and young people under the guardianship of registered construction workers to commend students for their outstanding academic performance and to give recognition to construction workers who have contributed to the development of Hong Kong while nurturing the next generation of talent. From the establishment of the Scholarships in 2011 to the current year, CIC has awarded scholarships to 126 local students with an approximate value of HK$970,000.

Mr. CHAN Ka-kui, Chairman of CIC and Mr. Paul CHONG, Chairperson of the Construction Workers Registration Board, jointly officiated the awards presentation ceremony at Construction Industry Council – Zero Carbon Building, and presented the awards to winners of “Open Category” and “Construction Related Curricula Category” respectively.

Chairman CHAN was delighted to know that applications have reached another new record high, with the total number of applicants increasing by 30% this year. He added, “With an aim to attract young people to join the construction industry and upgrade professional skills of in-service construction personnel, CIC would set up the Hong Kong Institute of Construction next year.”

Mr. Paul CHONG said, “This year, it is the very first time that we received an application from a non-Chinese student, that’s obviously very encouraging. I am also delighted to see a number of the award winners have chosen construction-related disciplines in the universities, such as engineering and surveying.” He stated that the best way to show gratitude to parents is to continue pursuing their passion in life and to use it as a source of motivation for learning.

All guests happily posed for a photo with all awardees, their parents and relatives
