At the opening ceremony, government officials, business leaders, sustainability practitioners and researchers gathered to share visions for Hong Kong’s future growth. “Transitioning to carbon neutrality requires significant financial resources. The government has allocated 6 billion USD over the past decade for sustainable infrastructure and initiatives. Another 30 billion USD will be allocated for mitigation and adaptation measures, including energy-saving, renewable energy, green transport and so on. The government aims to drive the green economy, create new opportunities, and explore innovative solutions like hydrogen economy and low-carbon technologies. Achieving carbon neutrality requires participation from all sectors.” said Mr Tse Chin-wan, BBS, JP, Secretary for Environment and Ecology.
“In a world confronted by environmental, social and economic challenges, the concept of sustainability emerges as the guiding light towards a thriving and resilient future. This year, we are delighted to present a more diverse showcase supported by seven newly curated conference theatres, stronger line-up of corporate support which will help to foster more cross-sector, private and public collaborations to realise the true potential of accelerating a sustainable transition for the benefit of our amazing city, businesses, future generations and the planet as a whole.” said Mr Chris Brown, Founder and CEO of ReThink HK 2023.
Exciting Highlights brought by New Exhibitors
This year, the event played host to more than 200 exhibitors, with more than half participating for the first time. Through presenting an array of newly-introduced products and solutions, these new exhibitors equipped attendees with pioneering tools to put sustainability ideas into action. Among the highlights are Swire Motors’ EV Volvo truck which made its first debut in Hong Kong; the city’s first electric heavy-duty truck presented by Windrose, Schneider Electric’s highly acclaimed EV charging technologies, and the first-ever 100% biofuel tri-generation plant in Hong Kong — a hydrogen and biofuel energy solution brought by Kolar Husky.
To offer a glimpse into sustainability practices in different countries and communities, ReThink HK collaborated with leading organisations to provide dedicated displays, such as the European Pavilion, BEC Pavilion, Start-up Pavilion, NGO Pavilion, the FSES (Fullness Social Enterprises Society) Pavilion, as well as the newly joined Canadian Pavilion and HKSTP Innovation Pavilion. Drawing from a global pool of knowledge and expertise, attendees could work out the best sustainability practices tailored to their unique context.
Joining Forces to Realise Shared Goals
As our exclusive co-organiser, Business Environment Council (BEC) has once again enriched our attendee’s visiting experience by presenting the BEC Pavilion and BEC Circular Transition Theatre, which drew a large number of sustainability practitioners from the business sector to explore net-zero solutions. We are also pleased to announce that BEC will continue to join hands with ReThink HK in 2024 to present new angles on sustainability in the business world.
“This is our third year collaborating with ReThink HK, and we are delighted to see that the event is making strides every year with more diverse themes and attendees. Through this exclusive partnership, we were able to gather member corporations to share best practices and inspire changes in business models and operating strategies. We will step up efforts to raise industry’s awareness and research into a wider range of topics in the upcoming edition.” said Mr. Simon Ng, Chief Executive Officer of BEC.
In addition to the commitment of our exclusive partner, ReThink HK 2023 also garnered support from 20+ top-tier and special sponsors, each playing a major role in their respective sectors such as banking, energy, real estate, transport, and technology. To name a few, Acceture, Chinachem Group, DBS, Henderson Land, HKSTP, HSBC, JLL, MTR, RESET Carbon, Schneider Electric, UOB and more. This extensive collaboration network demonstrates our pivotal role to motivate stakeholders across sectors to embrace the same sustainability goals.
