• HKRI Taikoo Hui Ushers in a New Era of Luxury and Culture with “The Louis” by Louis Vuitton.

    1 July 2025

HKRI Taikoo Hui, a premier commercial landmark in Shanghai, has unveiled a stunning addition to its evolving landscape: “The Louis” by Louis Vuitton.

This boat-shaped architectural gem gracefully fuses fashion, heritage, and hospitality, symbolising the brand’s storied connection to travel and Shanghai’s maritime roots.

Inside, guests are invited to explore a multifaceted experience: from Le Café Louis Vuitton’s East-meets-West menu served in an elegant, ocean-liner-inspired setting, to the “Visionary Journeys” exhibition, which journeys through Louis Vuitton’s innovation and craftsmanship across eras.

Designed in collaboration with architecture powerhouse OMA, the 1,200-square-metre exhibition culminates in a curated retail space featuring the brand’s signature collections.

In a bold cultural statement, HKRI Taikoo Hui launches “Ocean Encounters”, a public art initiative in partnership with Meta Media Group. International artists Liam Gillick, Nobuaki Takekawa, and Tianzhuo Chen inject fresh dialogue into urban space with works that echo exploration, knowledge, and ecological introspection. Chen’s “Oceanic Whisper”, a 300-metre visual odyssey, turns the escalator zones into imagined seascapes—layered storytelling meets architectural immersion.

As the line between art and commerce blurs, Shanghai’s latest unveiling, ‘The Louis’—stands as a manifesto for experiential luxury and the power of place-making.

This launch marks a milestone for HKRI Taikoo Hui, affirming its role as a catalyst of innovation in Shanghai’s retail and cultural narrative. With roots in pioneering projects such as the Starbucks Reserve™ Roastery and The Harrods Tea Rooms, the complex continues to elevate its offerings, welcoming global flagship stores and bespoke lifestyle experiences.

“The Louis” is not only a triumph of design and branding, but a strategic move toward realising a “100-billion-yuan world-class commercial district” in Jing’an.

At the heart of it all is HKRI Taikoo Hui’s philosophy: building connections that transcend commerce, where architecture and artistry shape how we experience the city.
