The landmark platform honors 80 enterprises for rigorous, evidence-based decarbonization and green innovation
Hong Kong, June 30, 2026 — As part of an ongoing regional effort to align corporate strategy with national and localized climate milestones, the GBA Carbon Neutrality Association (GBACNA), alongside co-organizers Hong Kong Gold Industry Group Limited and the Hong Kong Sai Kung Tseung Kwan O Industries and Commerce Association, successfully hosted the inaugural Carbon Awards 2026 at the JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong on June 29.

The high-profile ceremony brought together senior policymakers, institutional investors, C-suite executives, and sustainability professionals to celebrate 80 organizations that have demonstrated exceptional carbon governance, measurable emission reductions, and systemic eco-stewardship across Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
Steering the Region Toward a Low-Carbon Future
The platform serves as an essential framework for advancing corporate social responsibility and low-carbon transformation. By championing credible climate action, the initiative directly supports the HKSAR Government’s green policies as a foundation for long-term sustainable development.
The year 2026 marks the beginning of the Nation’s ‘15th Five-Year Plan’, a critical period for achieving carbon neutrality after carbon peaking. The global decarbonization wave presents both challenges and opportunities, reshaping the global economic landscape. Financial Secretary Mr. Paul Chan, in the ‘2026-27 Budget’, emphasized that low-carbon transition and energy diversification are crucial for economic resilience and national security, especially given the increasing importance of stable and sustainable power supply in the AI era.
Hong Kong is actively pursuing its climate commitments, aiming to halve carbon emissions from 2005 levels by 2035 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. To this end, the city is strengthening its position as an international green finance center through initiatives like sustainable bond issuance, a refined green classification framework, and platforms such as ‘Core Climate’ to channel private capital into green transition projects.
Officiating the event, Mr. Tse Chin-wan, BBS, JP, Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Environment and Ecology Bureau, The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, remarked on the critical intersection of policy and corporate action: “Achieving carbon neutrality requires strong synergy between government policy and corporate execution. The Carbon Awards 2026 serves as an excellent catalyst, encouraging enterprises to actively adopt practical decarbonization strategies and green innovations. As Hong Kong continues to drive forward its Climate Action Plan 2050, collaborative initiatives like this are vital to strengthening the Greater Bay Area’s position as a leader in regional green transformation and sustainable development.”
Mr. Dennis Wu, Founding President of the GBACNA, said, “The launch of the Carbon Awards 2026 marks a pivotal milestone in our collective climate journey. Operating from Hong Kong—our irreplaceable ‘super-connector’ bridging mainland China and global markets—our vision is to scale this credible platform across the Greater Bay Area and onto the international stage. Fully aligned with the nation’s ‘dual-carbon’ strategy and the green directives of the ‘15th Five-Year Plan’, these Awards spotlight organizations that move beyond rhetoric into concrete, evidence-based execution. By embedding advanced technology like the Agentic Green scoring system—developed in alignment with trusted industry benchmarks like the Hong Kong Green Finance Association—we ensure absolute rigor and transparency in our process. Ultimately, these Awards are not just about recognition; they are about fostering deeper cross-sector collaboration and catalyzing practical, measurable decarbonization to shape a resilient, net-zero future.”

Multi-Dimensional Rigor: How Judging Works
To maintain transparency and ensure an equal playing field, entries were evaluated separately across three principal tracks: Listed Company, Non-Listed Company, and Green Tech Enterprise.
Adjudicated by a distinguished cross-sector judging panel of experts from academia, government, finance, and industry, the evaluation methodology rejected superficial green claims. Assessments required submitted disclosures, sustainability reports, and verified audit trails. The comprehensive framework measured four critical dimensions:
- Carbon Emission Reduction Performance and Commitment: Standardized metrics mapping absolute greenhouse gas emissions (Scope 1, 2, and 3) and year-on-year reduction trajectories aligned with international reporting protocols. Also, carbon governance structure, commitment, and related policies.
- Carbon Neutrality and Climate Change Related Disclosure: Disclosures on carbon emission target, climate related disclosure (e.g., TCFD), carbon neutrality target, climate related Sustainability Development Goals (“SDGs”), comparable data and other carbon neutrality or climate related disclosures (e.g., TCFD, SBTi, IFRS by ISSB). Also, 3rd parties’ assurance and review.
- New Energy Usage and Commitment: Usage and commitment to the usage of new energy (e.g., solar, wind, hydrogen, green methanol, and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)), the offsetting with Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and other related factors. Bonus points will be attributed to the innovation ideas on this area.
- Efficient Use of Resources and Commitment: Practical implementation of circular economy principles following the 4R framework (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Replace). Bonus points will be attributed to the innovation ideas on this area.
- Use of Artificial Intelligence: AI evaluates applicants across five key sustainability pillars: Emissions Performance, Carbon Strategy, Governance & Disclosure, Innovation & Impact, and Overall Impression. It assigns a score out of 10 for each category to calculate a Total Score out of 50. Additionally, it provides data-driven qualitative feedback and an “AI Summary,” serving as an initial reference before human judges determine the final scores.
In green technology innovation, the implementation of the ‘Hong Kong Hydrogen Energy Development Strategy’ and the injection of funds into the ‘Low-carbon Green Technology Research Fund’ are accelerating the commercialization of waste-to-energy and hydrogen technologies. The innovative Agentic Green intelligent preliminary screening and scoring system, introduced in this year’s awards, actively responds to the Financial Secretary’s ‘AI + Green Technology’ strategy. This system utilizes big data analysis to provide the judging panel with objective and efficient evaluation criteria, ensuring the credibility and foresight of the selection results.

The inaugural Carbon Awards 2026 marks the beginning of a sustained, collaborative journey toward a net-zero economy. As these pioneering organizations set new benchmarks for carbon governance, the GBACNA remains committed to nurturing this platform, expanding its reach from Hong Kong across the Greater Bay Area and into international markets. By fostering deeper cross-sector dialogue and driving the adoption of data-backed, innovative tools, the Association aims to empower more enterprises to transform climate commitments into scalable, real-world impact for a resilient future.
The realization of the Nation’s “dual carbon” goals is inseparable from the synergistic efforts of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. From implementing the ‘Hong Kong Sustainable Disclosure Standards’ to promoting the interconnection of regional carbon trading markets, every advancement embodies the collective wisdom of various sectors. The awarded enterprises are exemplary models within the Greater Bay Area that move beyond mere rhetoric to actively practice low-carbon governance. Their successful experiences will not only create a benchmark effect within the Greater Bay Area but also contribute valuable ‘GBA wisdom’ to the global net-zero economic transition.
The journey towards carbon neutrality is long, but progress is made by taking action. The GBA Carbon Neutrality Association will continue to work hand-in-hand with all sectors, driving transformation through innovation and empowering green initiatives through finance, to collectively build a sustainable future.
