Aidan Mercer, Managing Director of buildingSMART International, completed a productive two-day visit to Hong Kong on August 19–20, meeting with key leadership from the Hong Kong Alliance of Built Asset & Environment Information Management Associations (HKABAEIMA, also serves as buildingSMART Hong Kong). The strategic engagement focused on advancing the region’s digital construction ecosystem, smart asset management, and OpenBIM standards.
The visit featured high-level exchanges with government bodies, public transport authorities, academic institutions, and technology innovators. Joined by Rosana of Yau Lee Group alongside Benny and Tim representing Global Virtual Design and Construction (GVDC), discussions covered crucial industry drivers ranging from government policy mandates to cutting-edge AI integrations.
The visit concluded with a dinner at Motto by Hilton Hong Kong SoHo, bringing together participants and industry stakeholders to celebrate shared milestones and chart the next steps for digital transformation across the built environment.
