AtkinsRéalis, a world-class engineering services and nuclear company, has been appointed by Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Parks Limited (“HSITPL”) as lead design consultant for key infrastructure and public facilities supporting Phase 1 of the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Innovation and Technology Park (“Loop Hong Kong Park”) at the Loop.
Located in the Hetao Shenzhen-Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Co-operation Zone, the Loop Hong Kong Park is a flagship development at the heart of the growing innovation and technology collaboration between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. Beyond the delivery of infrastructure, the Park is envisioned as an integrated innovation ecosystem where research, enterprises and talent can connect, collaborate and grow, supporting Hong Kong’s ambition to strengthen its position as an international innovation and technology hub and the Greater Bay Area’s development as a leading global innovation cluster.
A key focus of the appointment will be helping translate this vision into a connected, vibrant and future-ready environment. The Central Boulevard and surrounding public realm will form an important part of the Park’s identity and user experience. AtkinsRéalis, while leading the multidisciplinary delivery of the contract, will work with Leigh & Orange and Zaha Hadid Architects on specific aspects of the Central Boulevard development to create a central spine that connects different parts of the development while supporting interaction and placemaking.
AtkinsRéalis’ integrated approach brings together multidisciplinary engineering, advisory, digital and sustainability expertise. Drawing on experience from major infrastructure and urban development programmes, the team will apply insights and solutions that exceed the core technical requirements of the project, supporting coordinated, high-quality delivery across the development’s complex interfaces and contributing to the Park’s strategic vision.
AtkinsRéalis will also draw on its extensive experience working with regulators, utilities and transport stakeholders across Hong Kong. This local delivery knowledge, combined with global technical capabilities, will support the coordination of the many infrastructure, planning and stakeholder interfaces involved in creating an integrated innovation district while balancing delivery timelines, quality requirements and stakeholder expectations across the development.
The multidisciplinary scope includes roads and associated transport infrastructure, the Common Utilities Enclosure, underground water, drainage and utility networks, and the Central Boulevard and associated landscaping. The project will also integrate smart city provisions, digital infrastructure and BIM-enabled project delivery, alongside sustainability measures supporting broader environmental objectives. AtkinsRéalis will review and enhance sustainability features to support net-zero ambitions and assess opportunities for green building certifications.
