(9 January 2019, Hong Kong) Mr. Paul CHAN, Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government, visited the Construction Industry Council (CIC)’s MiC Display Centre today.
The visit was led and narrated by Mr. CHAN Ka-kui, Chairman of CIC, and Ir Albert CHENG, Executive Director of CIC. Mr. CHAN Ka-kui pointed out that the construction industry has currently been facing challenges on manpower shortage, site safety, rising construction costs, etc. Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) is an effective way to solve the challenges and it can also shorten 30% of the construction time. Mr. Paul CHAN praised CIC for its effort to introduce innovative construction technologies to Hong Kong and he hoped that the new technologies may tackle the problems faced by the industry today.
CIC hopes to enhance the construction safety and quality through the adoption of MiC. The establishment of the MiC Display Centre aims to introduce the transportation, construction materials, design and construction solutions which are complied with the laws and regulations of HKSAR to the industry via the actual project showcase.
Opened in November 2018, the 2-storey MiC Display Centre is the first building adopting MiC in Hong Kong which is located at the Construction Industry Council – Zero Carbon Building. It consists of 10 modular units to showcase six types of show flats, including an exhibition area, a Hotel unit, a Hostel unit, an Elderly Home unit, a 3-bedroom Residential Flat and a 1-bedroom Residential Flat. Each show flat is designed according to the actual living environment of Hong Kong. The design of the MiC Display Centre showcases a high-quality, durable, aesthetically pleasing and user-friendly environment.
