(13 June 2016, Hong Kong) On Saturday 11 June, the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) celebrated 81 students who graduated in the Class of 2016 in Hong Kong. Almost 400 friends, family and industry leaders cheered on the graduates who will join a global network of 32,000 SCAD alumni.
“At the joyous occasion, SCAD was pleased to announce that 98% of last year’s graduates successfully landed jobs pursuing their creative careers or sought further education within an impressive 10 months of graduation, according to the latest school survey,” said Dr. David Pugh, Vice President of SCAD Hong Kong.

SCAD graduates are well prepared to succeed in their creative careers and contribute to Hong Kong’s transformation into a world-class center for art, culture and design, he added.
Joining the students on the stage were honorary degree recipients Douglas Woo, Chairman and Managing Director of Wheelock and Company Limited, and Mimi Tang, Founder of Wing’s Share Company, in recognition of their significant contribution to youth development and the well-being of society.
In his commencement speech, Mr. Woo told the graduates: “I’m extremely honored and grateful to be with you all today as you graduate from one of the most prestigious art and design schools in the world. You are tough, trained, and talented. Choosing a creative path in Hong Kong takes a lot of courage. It’s not a well-beaten path, and you should all be very proud. Creativity is one of the most critical skills for the future: it can’t be automated and, above all, it maximizes human potential.”
He also invited the graduates to step out of their comfort zone, challenge themselves every day, and be aware of something greater than themselves in order to maximize their potential.
“Receiving this honorary degree came as a pleasant surprise, especially from such a distinguished International art and design college. I’m very grateful for the recognition. Being a part of the luxury fashion industry for many years, I recognize that essential elements for a brand or company’s success include its innovative design and commercial opportunities. SCAD helps its students develop a good balance of both creativity and business know how. It is up to the young talents that have graduated today, to use what they have learnt at SCAD, to strengthen their potential and commitment in facing the challenging, outside world.” said Mimi Tang, who was honored for her 45 years of contribution to fashion.
This year, SCAD Hong Kong also celebrated its first batch of graduates from its fashion undergraduate program, since its launch in 2012. The best designs from Hong Kong’s graduates were selected and shown to the world (along with their counterparts in the U.S) at the graduation fashion show held in May at SCAD’s Savannah campus.
