(Hong Kong, 14 October 2020) The Hong Kong Construction Association (HKCA) today invites local residents to take part in the “Built Over The Century” Photo Marathon, part of HKCA’s 100th Anniversary celebration. The Photo Marathon is about visiting 100 designated projects completed in the past century featured in the commenoratory book – “Built Over The Century”. Contestants shall visit all 100 designated projects and take photos of them at the location to compete in two award categories: Challenge 100 and Photography Awards, with attractive cash prizes of HK$30,000 and HK$20,000 for the Champions respectively. Voters Awards will also be presented and the winner in that category will receive a cash prize of HK$20,000.
Through taking part in the programme, HKCA wishes to share its members’ contributions to Hong Kong’s economic development over the past 100 years, and, to continue in join hands with its residents to make the city a better place in the next century.
All Hong Kong residents aged 18 or above are eligible to compete in the Photo Marathon. Admission is free. From now until 13 December 2020, interested individuals can enroll in the Photo Marathon in just three easy steps: 1) download the Photo Marathon mobile app from the App Store or Google Play, 2) register to use the mobile app, and 3) sign up to join the Photo Marathon. The Photo Marathon is both an individual and team competition, however, teams are restricted to a maximum of four people. Contestants must travel around to all 100 designated projects and take photo of them with the camera feature of the customised mobile app. Before submitting the photos, contestants are required to select the location of the respective projects. Contestants then should allow the mobile app to access their phone camera and turn on their smartphone’s GPS. Mobile app users can also browse the submitted photos by accessing the mobile app’s album.
There are three categories of awards in the Photo Marathon:
- Challenge 100: awarded to individuals or teams who have successfully taken and submitted photos of all the required projects in the shortest time within the activity period. Cash prizes for the Champion, 1st Runner Up and 2nd Runner Up are HK$30,000, HK$20,000 and HK$10,000 respectively;
- Photography Awards: awarded to the outstanding photos selected by HKCA. Cash prizes for the Champion, 1st Runner Up and 2nd Runner Up are HK$20,000, HK$10,000 and HK$5,000 respectively;
- Voters’ Awards: will be conferred on photos which received the greatest number of votes from the mobile app users. Cash prizes for the Champion, 1st Runner Up and 2nd Runner Up are HK$20,000, HK$10,000 and HK$5,000 respectively;

Photo Marathon is one of the celebrating events to mark the HKCA’s centenary. The Association is releasing its “Built Over The Century” HKCA 100th Anniversary commemoratory book in mid to late October 2020 to showcase 100 projects completed by HKCA members over the past century. Projects featured in this mobile app are from the book. The Association sincerely wishes that participants can establish a connection between continual development and the construction industry whilst enjoying the fun and interact during the exploration.
