The Formless Greatness: A Quiet Way of Seeing. Inspired by Taoist philosophy, the name reflects the belief that true greatness reveals itself through experience rather than appearance.

The name Grand is inspired by the philosophy behind “The Formless Greatness, A Quiet Way of Seeing”, which became the conceptual foundation of the project.

Inspired by Taoist philosophy, the name reflects the belief that true greatness reveals itself through experience rather than appearance. The idea of “A Quiet Way of Seeing”, drawn from Mencius, suggests looking beyond appearances to discover a deeper understanding of things.

Every mature brand eventually reaches a new stage. Once a brand has earned recognition and trust, its next challenge is no longer how to prove itself, but how to create a more complete hospitality experience. Grand Ji Hotel was conceived in response to this very question.

For us, Grand does not mean creating a larger hotel. It represents a broader vision, a more complete guest experience, and a more mature approach to hospitality. This philosophy has been translated throughout the design, becoming not only the foundation of the brand, but also the guiding principle behind the entire guest journey.

    A Natural Evolution

Ji Hotel has long been recognised for its values of Eastern spirit, moderation, humanity, and nature, becoming a familiar and trusted choice for travellers. As the brand continues to evolve, many loyal guests have begun looking for something more—not greater luxury, but a more refined hospitality experience. They seek better spaces, more thoughtful amenities, and a deeper sense of comfort within a brand they already know and trust.

Rather than creating a new brand, Grand Ji Hotel represents the natural evolution of Ji Hotel. Building upon the original DNA of Ji Hotel, the project refines spatial quality, functionality, and the overall guest experience while preserving the familiarity, restraint, and calm that define the brand.

    Experience Before Form

The value of a hotel is not created by a single memorable moment. It is built gradually through every stage of the guest journey—from arrival and stay to rest and departure. Every interaction shapes the overall hospitality experience.

Rather than focusing solely on space, we focus on how space responds to real use. Design, operations, and guest experience should work together as a single integrated hospitality system, in which every design decision ultimately serves the people who use it.

    Eastern Spirit in Everyday Life

For Vermilion Zhou Design Group, Eastern design has never been the starting point. It is a spatial expression that naturally emerges from an understanding of how people live. Instead of recreating traditional imagery, Grand Ji Hotel transforms the ideas of water, clouds, mountains, tea, and pine into a contemporary spatial language. Through materials, light, art, and objects, these elements become part of everyday life rather than decorative motifs.

From the entrance sequence and lobby to the breakfast space, guestrooms, and public amenities, every design decision is guided by real guest experiences—allowing life to shape space and experience to shape design. Ultimately, the Eastern spirit is no longer something deliberately expressed, but something quietly felt through every stay.

Returning to the Essence of Hospitality

Grand Ji Hotel is not about making Ji Hotel more luxurious. It is about making the experience more complete. The project responds not only to the evolution of hotel design, but also to the changing expectations of contemporary travellers. When design returns to experience, and space returns to everyday life, the brand no longer needs to speak loudly for itself. Like the changing seasons and the quiet rhythm of nature, everything finds its own way.
