An annual flagship event “2026 Asia GIS Conference” kicked off today (21/10) for a two-day run at PolyU. Co-located with the “1st Cross-Strait, Hong Kong & Macao Conference on the Development of Surveying, Mapping and Geospatial Information” , this event convenes top scholars, industry leaders, and scientific researchers from across the region and globally, featuring in-depth discussions on hot topics such as satellite navigation and positioning, 3D real scene and digital twins, the integration and innovation of AI as well as smart cities and national spatial planning to jointly drive the integration and innovative development of GIS and Common Spatial Data Infrastructure (CSDI) in the era of AI and big data.
As a long-standing practitioner in smart cities and sustainable construction practices, Dr. Rosana Wong of Yau Lee Group has been dedicated to integrating GIS,BIM, CIM and digital intelligence technologies. Today, she attended the opening ceremony and key seminar sessions, engaging in profound exchanges with renowned international spatial science figures, including Prof. Anthony Yeh, Prof. Michael Batty, Prof. Michael Goodchild, and Prof. Deren Li, to explore collaborative applications and future opportunities of spatial big data and AI large models in smart city development, smart construction, and carbon audit.
In addition to high-level academic discussions and specialized parallel sessions, the organizers arranged technical visits, exhibition booths and a conference dinner. These activities allow international attendees to experience Hong Kong’s latest breakthroughs in spatial data infrastructure and digital transformation while enjoying the academic exchange. This landmark gathering not only deepens collaboration among cross-strait regions and international research institutions, but also injects powerful momentum into the smart city evolution across the Asia-Pacific region.
