Mr. Michael LI Kiu-Yin, JP, Director of Architectural Services of the Hong Kong SAR Government, officiated the ceremony. The event attracted distinguished industry leaders, award-winning architects, and guests. Following the ceremony, a networking session provided an opportunity for attendees to exchange ideas and celebrate the remarkable contributions of Hong Kong’s architectural community.
HKIA President Ar. Benny Chan remarked in his speech, “High-quality architectural design not only creates livable cities but also preserves history, tradition, natural ecosystems, and biodiversity amidst rapid urban development. It enhances urban efficiency to achieve carbon neutrality, addressing the challenges of extreme weather. Furthermore, with the Hong Kong government’s recent focus on fostering creative industries and advancing innovative technology, exceptional and creative architecture and urban design play a vital role in inspiring creativity among children, which is crucial for nurturing a generation of innovative young minds in Hong Kong.”
Guest of Honour Mr. Michael LI Kiu-Yin, JP, Director of Architectural Services, also emphasized the profound impact of technological innovation on architecture in recent years: “I look forward to seeing more ambitious design concepts turned into reality, completed at lower costs and faster speeds. The Architectural Services Department has been collaborating with research institutions and start-ups to incorporate more innovative elements into project designs. Beyond technological breakthroughs, we recognize architecture’s role in social responsibility. Faced with the challenges of climate change, architects continue to explore new construction methods and eco-friendly materials to reduce carbon footprints and create more sustainable urban environments. For instance, our recent refurbishment of the Tamar Pet Garden public restroom incorporated sustainable materials. For future projects, we will consider piloting structural timber where feasible. This year, we have also consulted stakeholders to develop a 3A strategy, working actively with the industry to move toward carbon neutrality.”
