(25 June 2018, Hong Kong) ─The “Hong Kong Construction Youth Skills Competition 2018” (Competition) organised by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) was successfully held from 23 to 25 June 2018 at CIC Trade Testing Centre. The Competition consists of 6 categories for construction-related skills including Bricklaying, Joinery, Painting & Decorating, Plumbing & Heating, Wall & Floor Tiling, and Welding, attracting an overwhelming response from the industry with more than 100 participants and 600 visitors.
Speaking at the Opening Ceremony on 23 June, Mr. CHAN Ka-kui, Chairman of CIC said that the Competition aims to offer a platform for young partitioners to share their experiences and enrich their skills so that the CIC could identify potential contruction elites for focused training. Those who have been selected would represent Hong Kong to participate in the WorldSkills Kazan 2019.
During the Competition, participants were required to complete various challenging tasks within 6 hours which had created an exciting atmosphere at the center. To ensure that the competition was conducted in a fair and impatial manner, a judging panel consisting of independent trade experts from the construction industry was formed.
In addition, CIC plans to organise the “Hong Kong Construction Skills Competition” in 2020 and appeals for the full support from the construction industry to this meaningful event, with a view to building a better future for the construction industry in Hong Kong.
