Steve Leung Design Group (SLD) enters a significant milestone as it officially marks its 25th anniversary with a series of celebrations since June 2022. In conjunction with Steve Leung, Founder of SLD’s 65th birthday, the Group will release Steve’s new monograph by the end of 2022. Highlighted events also include the official grand opening of SLD’s corporate culture centre SLD+, expected to take place in the last quarter of this year, as well as 25th Anniversary Gala Dinners in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Guangzhou, planned for December, to shed light on the Group’s incredible journey and jointly celebrate with the design community.
Adding spark to the anniversary, Steve Leung’s new product design just made its debut at the highly anticipated Salone del Mobile 2022. After a pandemic hiatus, the fair returns in full force for its 60th edition with a rich programme focused on creativity, innovation and special attention to sustainability. Steve will showcase his award-winning approaches to design and lifestyle through exclusive collaborations with Italian acclaimed furniture brands Visionnaire, Lema and Lualdi.
This is the 5th collaboration with Visionnaire since the first collection was launched in 2015 for the brand’s 10th Anniversary celebration, the result of a long-term relationship of mutual esteem. Inspired by Visionnaire’s core values of nature’s celebration and holistic sustainability, along with the blueprint of the first collection, Steve investigates a different aspect of the beauty of nature: the fascinating resilience of trees. The final creative outcome celebrates trees’ incredible adaptability of thriving and growing stronger amid different weather conditions and even hostile environments.
Eureka Wardrobe Vanity for Lema
Compositional flexibility, modularity and customization, sophisticated aesthetics and high quality in terms of materials and manufacturing are the keys to the success of Lema. The Eureka wardrobe vanity marks the debut collaboration between Steve and Lema, echoing the shared design value of breaking the status quo by reinventing and innovating artisanal objects for Lema, whilst pushing the boundaries to achieve “Design Without Limits” for SLD. By reimagining the traditional notion of wardrobe, Steve strived to offer a better lifestyle experience to the final user. As suggested by the name itself, “Eureka” – literally meaning “I have found (it)!” in Ancient Greek, this unconventional wardrobe’s design unveils surprising features that reveal countless possibilities. “Wardrobe is not only a storage: instead, it is a transforming object that evolves and adapts to become an integral part of our life.” Steve further explained.
Ying Door Collection for Lualdi
Lualdi, the legendary name in the history of Italian design for interior doors and boiserie, embarked on the first-ever collaboration with Steve on the Ying door collection in 2020. The exquisite collection is finally showcased at Salone 2022. As the first Asian designer lined up for this special partnership, Ying embodies rich Chinese heritage and masterful Italian craftsmanship in a seamless symbiosis, manifesting a continuum between Oriental tradition and Western sensibility to create a timeless elegance and understated luxury for interior doors. Rooting the inspiration from sǔn mǎo (榫卯) – a traditional Chinese technique of creating enduring and elegant joinery, the collection reimagines the antique skills through a modern approach and contemporary elements.
