Hong Kong • 30 May 2026 – The Construction Industry Council (CIC) today hosted the “WorldSkills Competition 2026 Construction Skills Showcase” (Showcase) and Cheering Session, under the theme “World-class Skills, Building the World”. The event featured interactive exhibitions, hands-on skill demonstrations and live exchange, offering the public an engaging opportunity to understand the latest developments in construction technology. The Showcase highlights the professional standards of Hong Kong’s construction industry, but also underscores the core values of inheritance and the enduring spirit of craftsmanship.

The Showcase is being held in the Event Hall of Citywalk 2 from today until 3 June. The exhibition features eight WorldSkills competition trades related to the construction industry, including Concrete Construction Work, Joinery, Painting and Decorating, Plumbing and Heating, Wall and Floor Tiling, Bricklaying, Welding, and Cabinetmaking.

During the event, teams of WorldSkills competitors demonstrating their high-level technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and professional craftsmanship via practicing competition tasks on-site. Selected booths will also feature virtual reality (VR) interactive zones, allowing the public to experience construction processes first-hand and gain a deeper understanding of engineering skills and technology.

In Cheering Session today, Ir Prof. Thomas HO, Chairman of the CIC, the Hon Augustine WONG and the Hon LAM Chun-sing, members of Legislative Council, Ir Simon LIU, Chairperson of Construction Industry Training Board, Ir Dr. LO Wai-kwok, Chairperson of HKIC Management Board, and Dr. Morgan YANG, Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Construction, cheered on the competitors, encouraging them to give the best and wishing them every success in the upcoming competition.

Ir Prof. Thomas HO, said, “I’m delighted to see our competitors striving for excellence and bringing the spirit of Craftsmanship to new heights, showcasing the dedication and professionalism of Hong Kong’s young talent on the world stage.”

Ir Albert CHENG, Executive Director of the CIC, added that hosting the event in a shopping mall with high foot traffic helps simulate the spectator-filled atmosphere of the WorldSkills competition. This helps strengthen young competitors’ psychological resilience and their abilities to perform under pressure.

During the Cheering Session, the competitors shared insights from their training journey with renowned former sports programme host Vince NG, offering the public a closer look at how they push beyond their limits by gaining opportunities to be on global stage through intensive daily training, refine their technical skills, and demonstrate the spirit of craftsmanship and its four dimensions: Attitude, Skills, Passion, Action, and bringing honour to the construction industry.

The WorldSkills Competition, also widely hailed as the “Skills Olympics”, is a biennial international event hosted in different countries since 1950. Previous editions of the Competition have attracted over a thousand elite participants aged 22 or below from more than 70 countries and regions worldwide, providing a platform for them to compete, exchange skills and learn from one another.
