(20 October 2017, Hong Kong) The WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017 was successfully completed in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The Construction Industry Council (CIC) sent four contestants to take part in the competition this year, they were YAU Ho-him (Bricklaying), SUEN Yiu-pan (Joinery), WONG Mei-sze (Painting and Decorating) and YIP Kim-fai (Wall and Floor Tilling).

The exciting competition fully showcased the superb skills of international competitors to the audiences. Although the delegates of the CIC failed to garner any award in the competition, they had successfully demonstrated Hong Kong’s professional construction skills to the world.
“It is our pleasure to have the CIC’s support to this world-class competition. The contestants had gained valuable experience from this competition which laid the cornerstone for their future success and development in construction industry. Also, we hope this competition can attract more potential youngsters to join the construction industry.” Ir Albert CHENG, Executive Director of the CIC said.
The Competition was held from 15 to 18 October 2017. Contestants were required to finish assigned tasks under specified conditions in their chosen skills or trades in the 4-day competition. Closing ceremony was held at 7pm in Abu Dhabi last night, five contestants sent by the CIC attended the event, which marked the end of the successful 44th WorldSkills Abu Dhabi competition. As the most comprehensive and prominent skills competition in the world, the 45th WorldSkills Competition will be held in Kazan, Russia in 2019.
