• ‘Infinity loop’ at core of Aedas’ design for Heartland 66 mixed-use building in Wuhan

    Aedas has released its vision for the 460,000m2 Heartland 66 development on Jinghan Avenue in the commercial and business heart of Wuhan in Hubei.

    Aedas adopted the classic theme of a Chinese knot as inspiration for the Heartland 66 mixed-use development and highrise in Wuhan.

    The development comprises a 177,000m2 shopping mall, about 151,500m2 of office space and some 131,500m2 of serviced apartments. The design adopts the concept of an “infinity loop”, an idea associated with Chinese knot ties. The interwoven knots are usually tied with a jade ornament, symbolising blessings and wealth.

    The concept of infinity loop and knots, developed by Aedas’ executive directors Christine Lam and David Clayton, is transformed into the retail circulation which appears as the visual feature uniting the three uses. The infinite form of knot is presented in the circulation and roof form, connecting the anchors and destinations with seamless flowing arcades. The work, for Hang Lung Properties, is due for completion in 2020.
